Our Journey Continues

altTook Malibu to Rob’s house this week for our lesson.  Its so good to get him out to see other places and get comfortable in new surroundings.  We spent the beginning of our lesson just getting Malibu to relax.  He spotted a few boogers right away and instead of forcing him to focus we gave him the time to relax so that when we did ask him to go to work we would get more quality.  It is so nice and refreshing to ride with a trainer that doesn’t force horses, but gives them the time to become mentally and physically ready for their work. This is a BIG DEAL!!!!!
Written by Michelle
Thursday, 11 April 2013 00:00

When Jane Calamusa came to me last year and told me that she had Courtney King Dye coming to Alabama for a Dressage clinic I was very excited.

This is a BIG DEAL for Alabama! Courtney King Dye

If you ride dressage CKD needs no introduction, but for people who are not aware of her accomplishments let me share why this is a great thing for us.  CKD has spent many years educating herself with top trainers, such as Lendon Gray, Steffen Peters, Debbie McDonald, and in Germany with Conrad Schumacher, Klaus Balkenhol and Henk van Bergen.

Courtney represented the USA in the 2007 and 2008 World Cup, and the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and has won numerous championships and honors at all levels of dressage.  An accident in 2010 brought Courtneys competitive riding to a halt.  She is still teaching horses and riders to reach goals and become the best athletes they can be.

Close to my heart is rider safety.  Courtney has become an avid supporter of rider safety and has changed the helmet rules for dressage competitions.  I hope this will trickle down to all disciplines of riding.

Courtney continues to be an important contributor to the dressage world, writing columns for publications, teaching and advocating for Riders4Helmets.

We are so lucky to have an instructor of her caliber in Alabama!  The rider spots have been filled with riders from training level thru I1.  Auditors are welcome but limited to 50 seats.

SAVE MONEY!
Written by Michelle
Sunday, 03 March 2013 00:00

This is a great video for the upcoming show season. Save money and braid your own horse!  Instead of water ABRT sells Quic Braid and it works great!  Also a 2 or 3 step mounting block, or a Duratote with a stool attached seem safer.

SPRING “HORSE” CLEANING

With the weather getting warmer it is time to get outside and clean.  It is a good time to get rid of old tack or tack you don’t use.  ABRT has a list of charitable organizations that will put your old tack to good use in their programs.  Gather up your stinky blankets and coolers and get them clean for next year.  I go to the nearest laundry mat and spend about an hour washing in their oversize washers and dryers.  You know they hate to see me coming!  When I get home I fold them up and put them in their chest, all clean and ready for next season.   ABRT also has a resource for blanket repair and cleaning, you can even drop them off and pick them up at the store.  I also like to get my water troughs ready for warm weather.
